TP-Link Archer C6 is an AC1200 dual-band router built on the Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) standard, offering solid all-round performance for homes that don’t need Wi-Fi 6 speeds.
Dual-Band Speed And Coverage
It delivers combined wireless speeds up to 1200 Mbps 867 Mbps on the 5GHz band for HD streaming and gaming, and 400 Mbps on the 2.4GHz band for everyday browsing and wider range. MU-MIMO technology lets the router communicate with multiple devices at once instead of one at a time, reducing congestion on busier networks. Four external high-performance antennas with Beamforming extend coverage, and TP-Link rates it for 3-bedroom houses.
Ports, Mesh Expansion And Setup
On the wired side, it includes 1 Gigabit WAN port and 4 Gigabit LAN ports up to 10x faster than standard Ethernet connections. The Archer C6 also supports TP-Link OneMesh, so it can be paired with a OneMesh-compatible extender later to build a seamless whole-home network under a single WiFi name. It can also be switched into Access Point mode to turn an existing wired connection into a wireless network. Setup runs through the TP-Link Tether app.
- AC1200 Dual-Band Wi-Fi — Up to 1200 Mbps combined (867 Mbps on 5GHz, 400 Mbps on 2.4GHz).
- MU-MIMO Technology — Serves multiple devices at once, reducing congestion.
- 4 High-Performance Antennas With Beamforming — Extended coverage for 3-bedroom houses.
- 1 Gigabit WAN + 4 Gigabit LAN Ports — Full Gigabit wired connectivity.
- OneMesh Compatible — Expandable into a whole-home mesh network later.
- Access Point Mode — Turns an existing wired connection into a wireless network.
This makes the Archer C6 a good fit for homes that want reliable dual-band Wi-Fi 5 performance at a lower cost than Wi-Fi 6 routers, with the option to expand coverage later through OneMesh. Buyers wanting Wi-Fi 6 efficiency should look at the Archer AX10 or AX23 instead. Note this router doesn’t include a USB port TP-Link’s Archer C6U variant adds one if that’s needed.
