The TP-Link RE705X is an AX3000 dual-band WiFi 6 mesh extender, sitting above TP-Link’s entry-level RE505X with higher combined speed and wider channel bandwidth for homes with more connected devices.
Wi-Fi 6 Speed And OneMesh Coverage
It delivers combined wireless speeds up to 3 Gbps 574 Mbps on the 2.4GHz band and 2402 Mbps on the 5GHz band using Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) with 1024-QAM for roughly 25% faster throughput than previous-generation WiFi. It supports 2×2 160MHz bandwidth on the 5GHz band, wider than the standard 80MHz, for faster speeds on supported devices. OFDMA and MU-MIMO improve efficiency across multiple connected devices, and Beamforming with 4 high-performance amplifiers targets signal strength toward connected devices. It’s compatible with TP-Link OneMesh, so when paired with a OneMesh-compatible router, it joins the same WiFi name as a single seamless network, and Smart Roaming keeps devices connected to the fastest signal while moving between rooms.
Ports, Setup And Placement
A Gigabit Ethernet port lets the RE705X double as a wired-to-wireless access point, useful for connecting a smart TV or games console. Two external antennas support the dual-band signal, and Adaptive Path Selection automatically picks the fastest connection path back to the router. It works with any router or access point, and setup runs through the WPS button or the TP-Link Tether app.
